A huge blaze has broken out at a recycling centre in Glasgow.
Fire crews have raced to the S. Norton & Co plant on London Road in Helenslea, in the east end, after the inferno broke out at around 7.20pm on Wednesday. The area has been closed off by police while firefighters tackle the blaze.
Explosions have been heard and footage take from the scene, which has been shared with Glasgow Live, shows flames leaping from the recycling plant as thick smoke billows into the sky.
Residents are advised to keep their windows closed and motorists have been asked to avoid the area. There are no reported casualties so far.
Local resident Colin Harkins told our sister title: “There is a massive fire at a recycling plant in the east end of Glasgow. There is also an acrid taste in the air.”

He added: “London Road is currently closed in both directions with police and fire in attendance.”
Another local resident said: “I was out in my garden and could smell smoke but it was really strong. I looked along the road and could see flames above the trees near the Celtic training ground.
“I went along to have a look and it’s the scrapyard beside it. It’s a huge blaze. Firefighters are now in attendance.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service quickly sent ten appliances to the scene and crews remain in attendance.
A spokesperson for the service confirmed that they had been called to a fire at the recycling centre at around 7.20pm and said: “We have six appliances, a high reach appliance and specialist resources at a fire affecting a recycling centre on London Road in Glasgow.
“There are no reported casualties. Due to levels of smoke in the area, nearby residents are asked to keep windows and doors closed.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “London Road, Glasgow is closed from Methven Street to Maukinfauld Road due to a fire at a premises, which was reported around 8pm on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
“Emergency services are in attendance. Residents are advised to keep their windows closed. Motorists should avoid the area if possible.”
