A new online booking system is being introduced at a council’s recycling centres in a bid to reduce waste, improve services, and respond to the climate emergency.

North Somerset Council said the changes are being brought in this autumn, with Weston-super-Mare the first to introduce the scheme, followed by Backwell and Portishead.

“By introducing a simple, quick online booking system, we can reduce queues, make visits easier, and ensure our sites are working as efficiently as possible for everyone,” councillor Annemieke Waite said.

The council said it will also see a reduction in non-residents using the facility, simplify vehicle permits and manage commercial and DIY waste.
