Just about everyone who follows the royal family comments on what great parents Prince William and Kate Middleton seem to be. That’s because their children are typically so well-behaved—save for the rare yet remarkable instances when they aren’t—that they’re downright impressive. Prince George’s behavior is particularly notable, as he has always seemed so much more mature and reserved, even at a young age.

While Prince William’s most recent comments about his children’s personalities reinforce so much of what we know (or suspected) about the way the royal kiddos act at home, he did let a surprising tidbit slip about Prince George that has us rethinking everything we thought we knew about the 12-year-old.

Prince William Shared an Update About His Children’s Personalities

We all know that the royals try to give their kiddos as much privacy as they can. That means they typically don’t dish too much about the things that go on behind-the-scenes with their children. However, Prince William let a few unexpected things slip during an appearance on Sept. 8, when someone asked if his children had gone back to school yet.

The father of three responded with a grateful admission that they had returned, before being asked if Prince Louis, the youngest of the royals, was “a bit of a handful,” according to Hello!. Ever the proud papa, Prince William appeared to jump to his son’s defense.

children”He’s a character, but he’s a very good boy,” he said before adding that the 7-year-old “likes to run his sister [Princess Charlotte] around”.

Prince William Says Prince George Knows How To Let Lose at Home

When the conversation shifted to Prince George, everyone seemed to concur that he was the more reserved one of the group, prompting a rare insight into royal home life. Prince William pointed out how there were five years between his sons, and while he was better at behaving in public, “behind closed doors it’s a completely different ball game” with Prince George.

Parents everywhere likely knew exactly what Prince William was talking about, because even our best behaved kiddos can cut loose from time to time when they have the freedom and security to do so, once again reinforcing just how good of parents Prince William and Kate Middleton must be for their children to feel safe enough to be themselves.
