Birmingham’s Brasfield & Gorrie has begun work on a $6 million project in Texas.
The planned hangar renovation at Airbus’s Grand Prairie campus will add an annex building and convert an existing building into a helicopter blade repair shop with two custom paint booths.
The increased space is aimed at boosting Airbus’ local repair capabilities and volume, and reducing turnaround times for civilians, first responders and military clients.
Bart Reijnen, head of the North America region for Airbus Helicopters, said the project will lead to faster service and increased efficiency.
Brasfield & Gorrie’s relationship with Airbus dates back to 2013. The two companies have collaborated on a dozen projects in the years since.
Brasfield & Gorrie VP and Division Manager Andrew Hannah said, “The blades repaired at this facility will be fitted to helicopters that fight fires, deliver aid and support the community in many other meaningful ways.”
