Punters at a legendary city centre pub got a surprise when they spotted Manchester United legend Paul Scholes pulling pints behind the bar.

The former Reds and England star was spotted in The Castle on Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter yesterday (Thursday, September 11).

A video shared on X, formerly Twitter, showed two people sat at the bar as the midfielder turned TV pundit, 50, pulled a pint from an old-fashioned cask hand pump.

“Pretty sure Paul Scholes is pulling pints in the pub I’ve just walked into… ?!” the stunned punter wrote alongside the video.

One person joked he must have ‘fallen on hard times’ whilst another quipped he was ‘pulling the levers even in retirement.’

The Manchester Evening News can in fact reveal Scholes was filming a promo for a podcast with his Class of 92 teammate, Nicky Butt.

Titled ”The Good, The Bad and the Football’ it also features Bolton-born comedian Paddy McGuinness

Scholes and Butt previously appeared together on a podacast called ‘Football’s Greatest Eras’ where they gave insight and memories of their time playing under Sir Alex Ferguson in one of British football’s most successful sides.

After coming through United’s academy, Scholes went on to make almost 500 appearances for United, winning 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies and four FA Cups.

As a pundit Scholes works mostly for TNT Sports but also hosts The Overlap Fan Debate show with Jamie Carragher.
