This was the moment a taxi and tram crashed in Manchester city centre sparking widespread rush hour disruption.

It happened on Mosley Street early this morning (Friday, September 12).

Pictures show the Metrolink tram having collided with the front offside of a silver-coloured hackney carriage.

It is not known if anyone was injured.

Firefighters attended the scene along with police.

As a result, the tracks between St Peter’s Square and Piccadilly Gardens were blocked.

This led to widespread knock-on disruption with trams on the Altrincham, Ashton, Bury, Eccles and MediaCity lines are among those affected this morning.

Trams resumed around 7:50am with some further delays as services recovered.
