Here’s how fans in the away end reacted after the final whistle, some with a chorus calling for Ruben Selles to leave…

Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles said to Sky Sports:

“The business is like that. If you don’t win football matches, your position is going to be discussed always, not only for me, for any coach in the world. That comes with reality. For us, I think there’s only one way – to keep working hard until the very last second at the club and try to always give 100 per cent.

“If you finish the job and you didn’t get the result you wanted, at least you are clear in your principles, your values and your way to do things.

“They [the Sheff Utd owners] have been supporting me until today. I didn’t speak with them after the game. Things happen in football and people need to make decisions, as I need to make decisions with my line-up.

“I’m not worried about that, I’m just worried about if we go for training, how we can do better, how we can get the boys’ morale up, how we prepare for the next game. That’s what it is for me.

“I’m the first critic of myself and the first one that puts pressure and it’s always going to be like that.

“I believe in myself. I also know things can not go your way sometimes and you can make mistakes, but I think this is part of it. I have done that before and hopefully I will do it.

“The one thing you will find with me is that I will be in front of absolutely everything. Now things are not going in the proper direction, I will also be in front of it.

“Right now, you just need to let the people feel the pain. We are not going to solve anything tonight. In this situation, we just need to sit. There are parts of the game we need to re-analyse. The good thing in football is you have a game in seven days and it’s a new opportunity, a new opponent and things can change really quick.”

(On leaving skipper Gus Hamer out of the XI): “I never gamble with the selection. It was the team I thought had the best chance of getting us a result.

“If you don’t win football matches your position is going to be discussed, not only for me but for every coach in the world. We have to keep working hard until the end.

“The owners have been supporting me until today. I haven’t spoken to them after the game. I’m not worried about that, I’m just worried about how we can do things better. I’m the first one to give pressure to myself.

“I believe in myself. I will always be in front of anything that has my name.

“We are not going to solve anything tonight but we have to analyse. The good thing about football is you have another game in seven days and it’s another opportunity.”

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna said to Sky Sports: “You want to get that first win and we’ve been close a couple of times. Tonight’s a good night for us.

“We felt like we weren’t too far away and there’s been some good things coming and a lot of it came out tonight.

“We’ve worked really hard with Jaden in pre-season and he’s worked really hard as well. There had been some good signs but without the end-product.

“We said it was a difficult summer for us and I felt there was a different vibe in the group in the past few days. I’ve felt a real determination to come together as a team and push on. It really felt like the first game tonight.

“We know how hard the season is. It’s good to get the first win but it’s very much feet on the floor.”

Ipswich’s hat-trick hero Jaden Philogene has been talking to Sky Sports:

“The boys played very well today, played to our strengths and we got the win,” he said.

“I was practising in training, working on my right foot and my left foot, it pays off in the game.”

Sheffield United fans stay behind in full voice after watching the 5-0 defeat away at Ipswich, here’s the Twitter reaction…

@brayash24: Please wait until after next Saturday to sack Selles. Thank you every Charlton fan

@woseph: Bottom of the league and his idea to get a result was to drop the two players who achieved a combined 31 g/a last season. Even Weir and Adkins wouldn’t have done that. Clueless – he cannot be in a job anymore @SheffieldUnited – do the right thing and save our season #sufc

@MikeConnelly9: This all stems from an incompetent, clueless group of owners. One ridiculous decision after another. It really does highlight how hopelessly out of their depth they are. What a way to piss £100m up the wall. A bunch of rich Yanks with a new hobby but no idea @Helmy_L2K #sufc

@Luke_1889: How the fuck hasn’t he been sacked yet? What are they waiting for? The fact he was in the dugout yesterday was a minor miracle after the first 4 games, if he’s still there next Saturday Bramall Lane will be the most toxic it’s ever been. SACK THE C*NT #TwitterBlades

@ViewFromJohnSt: Thought away backing tonight, in the face of total shambles, was a credit to Blades. Win loss of draw, we’ll still come back for more…great support. Club doesn’t deserve it. #sufc #twitterblades

@AdamFerriday: Has he been sacked yet? All it needed was a few tweaks and some mindless morons genuinely tried to justify the sacking of CW. #twitterblades

@Jeotky23: Board take some blame for not backing Selles & also not sorting out the club structure, but Selles has dug his own grave since the City defeat with his team selections & tactics. Players clearly aren’t having him, time for him to go. #twitterblades

@cherrystreet71: Proud of our supporters last night 👏⚽️ Loud and proud all game. Weve been let down by a totally unnecessary decision by our new owners and you reap what you sow. 100% no doubt with a half decent manager we will climb the table but Selles has to go today #twitterblades

@ijparkes: Thank god Selles had 2 weeks to tweak things otherwise that could have been embarrassing #twitterblades

@LFSUFC: COH Sports made the worst decision in appointing Selles. They ripped the heart from our club and replaced it with a fraud. They should have the common decency to sack him and appoint someone who has a clue. Do us all a favour and get rid of him. #sufc #twitterblades

@GJF1889: 5 league games in. Scored 1, conceded 12. From all of those games there hasn’t been an ember let alone a flash of what on earth Selles is trying to bring to this team. The decision to replace CW with this guy will never, ever make sense #twitterblades #sufc
