Former Hull City head coach Ruben Selles is under mounting pressure at Sheffield United after his side were thrashed 5-0 at Ipswich Town on Friday night.
Selles admitted he did not know what the future had in store for him at Bramall Lane after a disastrous start to the season left the Blades rooted to the foot of the Championship table and the only team without a single point.
The Spaniard, who was sacked by City owner Acun Ilicali after battling to keep the Tigers in the Championship last season, watched in horror as former MKM Stadium favourite Jaden Philogene crashed in a superb hat-trick to cap a Man of the Match display at Portman Road, while Jacob Greaves was rarely troubled.
Reports over the weekend claimed Chris Wilder, who was sacked after United suffered Wembley heartbreak in the play-off final against Sunderland, having amassed 92 points to finish third behind Leeds United and Burnley, has been sounded out about a shock return.
There’s a growing belief that the Blades’ hierarchy will dispense with Selles before their next game at home to Charlton Athletic next weekend.
“If you don’t win football matches, your position is going to be discussed, not only for me but for every coach in the world. We have to keep working hard until the end,” the former Tigers boss told Sky Sports.
“The owners have been supporting me until today. I haven’t spoken to them after the game. I’m not worried about that, I’m just worried about how we can do things better. I’m the first one to give pressure to myself. I believe in myself. I will always be in front of anything that has my name.
“We are not going to solve anything tonight but we have to analyse. The good thing about football is you have another game in seven days and it’s another opportunity.”
