A SOLIHULL addiction service is celebrating the achievements of those recovering from substance misuse and other addictive behaviours this month.

To mark National Recovery Month Solihull Integrated Addiction Services (SIAS) is highlighting the success of those who have dedicated themselves to move on from addiction.

The service says September is an opportunity to raise awareness about addiction and mental health, promote treatment and recovery practices, and recognise the dedication of service providers and the recovery community.

Mark Pemberton, service manager – engagement at SIAS, said: “National Recovery Month is an important annual campaign for us.

“We celebrate the success of those in recovery from addictive behaviour, encourage conversations around addiction, support those who need help and remind everyone that recovery is possible.

“We have helped hundreds of people to move on from addiction, many of whom then joined our team as peer mentors or volunteers to carry on the vital work and help others start new lives.”

SIAS offers a range of services from The Newington Centre in Marston Green which can all be tailored to suit the individual’s needs, including one-to-one sessions with a practitioner, drop-in group sessions and activities such as art groups, cycling and wellbeing nature walks.

The full range of SIAS services includes treatment for adults and young people, support for adults in recovery from addiction, support for families, including children affected by someone else’s substance misuse, support with housing and homelessness, a needle exchange and harm reduction service, drug and alcohol awareness training for professionals and workshops for schools, colleges and businesses.

Mark added: “Throughout Recovery Month we are asking all those currently in treatment with us, or who have completed their recovery journey, as well as our practitioners and associates, what recovery means to them.

“Everyone’s experience of recovery will be different, and we hope to build a picture of the journey which will encourage, support and inspire individuals whatever stage they are at, and ultimately celebrate freedom from addiction and hope for recovery.”

SIAS is a partnership of five organisations commissioned by Solihull Council that work together to deliver a free and confidential treatment and support service to anyone affected by drug and/or alcohol misuse in the borough. Its mission is to support recovery, reduce harm and rebuild lives.
