Birmingham has welcomed a new green commercial development with the unveiling of 19 Cornwall Street, a net-zero-carbon office building in the city’s business district.

Spanning 139,000 sq ft, the building boasts a NABERS 5‑Star Design Reviewed Target Rating and aims for both BREEAM Excellent and WELL Gold certifications.

This all-electric building eliminates on-site fossil fuels, employing integrated solar panels and a high-performance façade to reduce energy demand.

Its design includes smart energy and air-quality monitoring systems, natural ventilation via openable windows and an atrium, biophilic features for improved indoor air, and facilities for sustainable commuting like cycle storage and showers.

Behind the project is Associated Architects, Hydrock, SBK Consulting, Cundall, and Gardiner & Theobald.

Leigh Thomas, group managing director at Kier Property said: “19 Cornwall Street sets a new standard for commercial buildings in the UK. We’ve combined design excellence with environmental ambition to deliver a workspace that doesn’t just look great but truly performs. By achieving a NABERS 5‑Star Design Reviewed Target Rating and focusing on long‑term energy efficiency, we’re offering occupiers a future‑proofed, low‑cost, high‑performance building at the heart of Birmingham’s commercial district. The building marks a major milestone in Birmingham’s transition to a low‑carbon economy.”
