Work began on the new iconic structure earlier this year and the Bolt was installed on Saturday.

The ‘Bolt of Lightning’ landmark has been described as ‘highly visible’ from the M62 and is housed on a roundabout at Omega – close to The Hut Group.

Designed by Peter Naylor and forming part of street art commissioned by Miller Developments Ltd, led by Colin Graham, developers say it will be ‘a very significant landmark’.

It is designed as a permanent memorial to all the men and women, military and civilian, British and American, who served at RAF Burtonwood.

It was fabricated in Hull with parts from Germany and is over 20 metres high and weighs more than 12 tons

Work started on site on April 14 with an official opening set to take place soon.
