The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, has reacted to the statements of Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, following his interview with the British radio Times Radio, where he said that “1 in every 50 Albanians in Britain is in prison”. Rama described this statement as untrue and stressed that it is an attempt to create a wrong perception about Albanians in the United Kingdom.
In an interview with British radio Times Radio, Rama expressed concern about the use of these types of statements, calling them “part of a broader mosaic of propaganda and baseless arguments”, which, according to him, have been used to support the political agenda of Britain’s exit from the European Union (Brexit).
The Prime Minister of Albania emphasized that there is not a high number of Albanians convicted in Britain, emphasizing that they are not separated from prisoners of citizens of other countries.
“There is no high number of Albanians convicted in the United Kingdom that can be separated from the total number of prisoners or from citizens of other countries. These are part of a wider mosaic of lies and deceptive arguments that were served to British citizens to convince them to leave the European Union.””, said Rama.
Rama also stressed the importance of Albanian migrant work in the UK for several important sectors of the economy, such as construction and transport. He added: “Where will you find the people to build your houses, to serve you coffee, to drive your taxis and trucks?”
