Wrexham made major attacking signings over the summer but chose to overlook a move to sign free agent Nathan Redmond.

Wrexham racked up 13 summer signings and even found time to snap up Reuben Egan as a free agent after the window closed.

Phil Parkinson decided to revamp his attacking options, as Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott all moved on.

Ryan Hardie, Josh Windass, Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead came in to bring a fresh look to Parkinson’s attack.

Wrexham had the chance to make another attacking signing, but appeared to overlook a deal.

Reports suggest that Wrexham were offered the opportunity to sign Nathan Redmond, who left Burnley at the end of last season.

Redmond has been a Premier League regular over the years and even won a solitary England cap in 2017.

Now 31, Redmond is looking for a new club and found that Wrexham looked elsewhere during the summer window.

Sheffield United have now followed suit, allowing Redmond to leave Bramall Lane after a recent trial spell.

Speaking before being sacked by Sheffield United, Ruben Selles told the Sheffield Star that Redmond had been let go.

Selles added that Redmond may still have a future at Sheffield United down the line, though the Spaniard’s exit and Chris Wilder’s return may rule out such a move.

“Nathan is not training with us anymore,” said Selles.

“We had a conversation with him. We really appreciate that he came and trained with us, and I really know the player that he is. So we wish him all the best, and you never know if in the future we will be able to come with him,” he added.

One month into the Championship season, Redmond remains without a club after Sheffield United and Wrexham snubbed him.

Other clubs will surely hold an interest in Redmond, and it would be little surprise to see him play against Wrexham at some point in the near future.

Don’t expect a free agent signing at Wrexham

Redmond still being available means Wrexham could feasibly still make a move for the ex-Southampton attacker.

Wrexham left a spot open in Parkinson’s squad earlier this month, which could be used on a free agent.

Dele Alli was linked with Wrexham last week with that very idea in mind, but both he and Redmond can likely forget about any potential move to the STōK Cae Ras.

Parkinson wants to name Ollie Rathbone as the final man in his squad, and the midfielder is looking to return from injury very soon.

Barring any setback for Rathbone in the coming weeks, Wrexham will not be in the free agent market, and Redmond will have to look elsewhere for a new club.
