He reportedly resided in an apartment on Wardsborough Road in the city.

Emergency services were alerted to the apartment complex around 1am, and Mr Furfey was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, where he later died.

Two people have been arrested, with police confirming they remain in custody.

She continued: “Two people – a 37-year-old man and 38-year-old woman – arrested yesterday, 15 September, remain in custody at this time.

“Our enquiries are continuing, and I am keen to take the opportunity to reiterate my appeal to anyone with information to contact detectives on 101. Please quote reference number 29 of 15/09/25.”

Local Sinn Féin councillor Declan Lynch said that as the murder happened “in the heart of Lisburn”, the entire community is in shock.

He urged people not to spectate, and instead allow for police to “conduct their investigations to come to a proper conclusion”.

Mr Lynch also said his thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased.

Alliance Party councillor Nicola Parker said the community had been left in shock.

“I am deeply saddened to learn about this horrifying incident, and my sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the victim during this incredibly difficult time,” she said.

“This tragic incident has left many residents in the community feeling shocked and distressed, but I am confident they will unite during this challenging time.

“The PSNI now need space to carry out their investigations but I would appeal to anyone who may have information that could assist, to please contact police.”

Previously, the PSNI’s Ms Angus said: “Police received a call for assistance from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service just before 1am on Monday morning, September 15, at a property in the Wardsborough Road area of the city.

“Officers attended, and a man, aged 42, was located at the property with serious injuries.

“Medical treatment was provided at the scene – before he was transferred onward to hospital.

“Sadly, the man then passed away this morning due to the extent of his injuries.

“A 38-year-old woman and 37-year-old man have both been arrested on suspicion of murder, and remain in custody at this time, assisting detectives with their enquiries.

“The local community can expect to see an increased police presence in the Wardsborough area as officers conduct further enquiries into what happened – cordons also remain in place.
