Several days after Valve filed the Steam Frame trademark, more evidence suggests that the company is preparing to announce the long-rumored sequel to its VR headset. Valve‘s first virtual reality headset, Valve Index, was released nearly six years ago in 2019 and is still regarded by many as one of the best VR devices on the market.

In early September, fans got excited after discovering that Valve had filed the Steam Frame trademark. At the time, many speculated that Steam Frame would be an umbrella term for Valve’s new lineup of gaming hardware. Others suggested it might be the name of the rumored SteamOS-powered home console the company has reportedly been working on. However, it now seems the trademark is likely tied to the sequel to the Valve Index, with evidence suggesting it could be revealed much sooner than expected.
VR Content Creators Hint at Announcement Coming Soon
Recently, some Reddit users have pointed out that several well-known VR content creators have been hinting that Wednesday, September 17, is going to be a special day. Many of these creators have already traveled to Seattle, which is close to Valve’s headquarters in Bellevue. For instance, NathieVR posted on X saying he is currently in Seattle with no further explanation, and Habie147, one of the biggest VR YouTubers, teased a “special report” coming on Wednesday. Several other creators have also hinted at a major announcement that day. Putting these clues together, many fans now believe that the sequel to the Valve Index, previously codenamed Deckard, is about to be officially revealed.
Given Valve’s history of surprise product reveals, it seems likely the company will announce, or even shadow drop, its next-gen virtual reality headset soon. Its previous product for the VR headset market was unveiled unexpectedly through a brand-new website, though some leaks surfaced before the official announcement.

As for the upcoming product, several leaks point to the rumored Steam Frame being priced around $1,200 USD, with plans for the standalone wireless VR headset to hit the shelves before the end of 2025. The full bundle will likely include a set of next-gen controllers codenamed “Roy,” which first leaked in 2024. It’s also rumored that Steam Frame will let users play flat-screen games that run on Steam Deck in a special VR mode.
The VR community is clearly excited about the possibility of “Valve Index 2” arriving soon, though it remains to be seen whether Valve will announce its latest hardware on September 17. However, if the rumors are true, it could be a significant day for the virtual reality gaming industry and mark the start of a new era for Valve and Steam, bringing the company closer to building its own gaming ecosystem.
