Yakuza 3

RGG Studio appears to have Yakuza Kiwami 3 in the works, as it’s been spotted that the developer’s website temporarily sported a reference to the remake in its Categories section. The mention has since been scrubbed, but was captured on social media, as seen below:

It’s been quite a few years since the Japanese team last remade some mainline entries in the Yakuza series, as Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 brought back the first two games on PS4. In April of last year, series director Masayoshi Yokoyama said it’ll “do a Kiwami 3 at some point. I think we’ll definitely do it sooner or later.” It now seems like RGG Studio is ready to show off its work.

Tokyo Game Show is right around the corner, and Sony is heavily rumoured to have a State of Play livestream taking place next week. Past remakes from RGG Studio, such as Like a Dragon: Ishin, have debuted during Sony showcases. There’s also an RGG Summit scheduled for 24th September, which is another potential place for the announcement to take place alongside updates on Stranger Than Heaven.

Originally released for PS3 in March 2010, the third instalment did receive a remaster for PS4 along with Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5, but the Kiwami re-releases have been going one step further with true remakes and enhancements for the classics.

If a Yakuza Kiwami 3 is indeed real, there’s a strong chance the reveal takes place next week. Would you play this? Let us know in the comments below.
