BEATLES enthusiasts and scholars around the world will soon be able to ‘come together’ to study the Fab Four, as the University of Liverpool’s unique Masters course returns as an online programme.

Launching in September 2026, the part-time MA The Beatles, Heritage and Culture will examine the enduring cultural and economic impact of the band on Liverpool and the surrounding City Region. The news comes as the city’s International Beatleweek 2025 comes to a close.

Students will consider how their legacy continues to impact areas such as urban planning and regeneration, civic design, heritage, and the tourism and leisure industries, as well as the music and creative industries.

An optional Special Project module will allow students two weeks in Liverpool, attending daily lectures and site visits linked to the Fab Four’s history, culture and heritage. Students will have the opportunity to personally interact with lecturers, peers, industry practitioners, government officials, historians and scholars.

Dr Holly Tessler, Progamme Director  said: “I am delighted for the opportunity to re-introduce the MA The Beatles, Heritage and Culture.

“Offering the programme as an online degree will enable people from all around the world to study Liverpool’s unique Beatles environment, history and heritage from scholars and practitioners who are immersed in this work.”

Applications for MA The Beatles, Heritage and Culture will open in October 2025, subject to approval. For further information, and to register your interest, please visit the MA The Beatles, Heritage and Culture webpage.
