As the weather is getting colder and the rain becomes more frequent, it might sound appealing to get out of London and explore a new part of the world. But if you don’t want to go through the trouble of travelling somewhere far away, one man shared what he believes is the perfect location for an autumnal day trip – and you can even get there on the Underground.
Samuel, better known as ‘LostInSamuel’ on social media, often takes to TikTok to share his top recommendations for hidden gem destinations in London and across the UK. In a recent video, he urged Londoners to travel on the Underground until they got to a town an hour away from central London which he claimed was the perfect location for a day out in autumn.
At the start of the video, Samuel can be seen walking on a path next to what appears to be a field as he had the town centre in front of him, which included large residential houses as well as a view of an old church tower.
“The perfect autumn day trip is just under an hour from London on the underground,” they wrote in the overlay text on the video.

The video then continued to show snippets of Samuel’s visit to the town, including exploring the Grade I listed church, walking through the town square before having a walk through the nearby forest.
Despite it being a seemingly gloomy day, the town were still seen having colourful pops of colour throughout, including in several floral arrangement and the abundance of trees and bushes that had all started to turn rusty orange and red.
“Welcome to the ultimate day trip from London, a charming town where Four Weddings and a Funeral was filmed!” he wrote in the caption of the video. “I can’t believe you can get to this gorgeous village just in less than an hour from London on the underground!”
The town in question is Amersham, which is located in Buckinghamshire and is one of the last destinations of the Metropolitan Line on the London Underground, making it an easy destination to travel to for Londoners.
The town has featured in a long list of popular movies, most famously the 1994 hit, Four Weddings and a Funeral, featuring Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, and Rowan Atkinson.
The local pub, The Kings Arms Hotel was the filming location for the movie, and was later used for Midsomer Murders.
The Kings Arms dates to the 1400’s, and now have 35 rooms that’s guest can book to stay in. It’s surrounded by independent boutiques, antique shops, and other pubs.
In order to get to Amersham, Samuel recommends getting on the Metropolitan Line at Baker Street and go to the last stop of the line, Amersham.
When you arrive, he said that the experience will get “even better” as you need to cross a forest through Rectory Hill to get to Amersham Old Town. But don’t worry, there’s a safe path you can take that will get you there.
