An American man travelled miles to try “the world’s best” fish and chips – and he could not believe how it tasted. There is nothing like a classic chippy tea by the seaside for a treat, but with so many different chains around the UK it can be hard to decipher which is the best of them all.

Award-winning fish and chip shop in Anstruther, Scotland, continues to be a popular, highly rated choice. The chippy has won a number of awards for being the best fish shop and takeaway since opening in 2003. The family-run business is known for its large menu and crispy fish, with many insisting in TripAdvisor reviews it’s “the best” they’ve “ever had”.

Trusted food review, Kalani Ghost Hunter, who boasts 3.2million TikTok followers, decided to see if the fish and chip shop is really worth it. Kalani, who is from Tennessee in the US, recently spent some time in the UK – and travelled to Scotland just to see the establishment.

“We have travelled a long way for what people consider the best chippy in the world,” he said in a TikTok video.

After admiring the seaside views near the eatery, Kalani started out with an Irn Bru before tucking into his fish and chips. He was presented with three large slices of battered fish on a bed of chips. He also got mushy peas, curry sauce and homemade tarter.

Before diving in, he said: “Take a look at that fish right there, that looks incredible.”

Tucking in, Kalani added: “Oh my God, it’s so crispy.” He also highly rated the chips, insisted they were “cooked perfectly” and boasts a “nice crisp”.

The fish and chip shop has a “secret recipe” for their batter which help makes it particularly crispy.

Kalani continued: “This is incredible. The fish tastes excellent, the tarter sauce and mushy peas are great. I don’t know how you beat this.”

He also finished off his meal with a classic British cup of tea.

“Brilliant chip shop,” agreed one in the comments. “I love this shop,” added another.

A third shared: “Had chips from here on a boat trip to the island of May, 15 years ago. To this day, best chips I’ve ever had.”

In the comments on the video, people also highly recommended another spot just down the road – The Wee Chip in Anstruther.
