Raise your hands if you spent a lot on bike hire last week when we were all navigating the Tube strikes. Full house? Thought so. But one thing it might have also done is put you in the mood for pedalling around the city instead of tackling the rush hour crowds.

If you want to do just that and save some pennies while you’re at it, then it might be time to tactically wait a couple of days before grabbing your Santander Cycles subscription this month. Why? Well, TfL is marking World Car Free Day with a half-price offer if you sign up on that very day.

September 23 is the day to redeem your Santander Cycles pass and get a sweet 50% off for the entire month to ensure unlimited cut-price cycles with the crisp autumn air as your trusty sidekick.

Be sure to get in there before 11:59pm on World Car Free Day to grab your month’s worth of bike rides for £10 (usually worth £20), which will ensure you have unlimited 60-minute spins around London. Find it in the Santander Cycles app and put in the code CFD25 and glide away, free from that crowd heading into the Tube station.

Speaking on the news, David Eddington, TfL’s Head of Cycle Hire, said: “We want to encourage more people to discover the joy of Santander Cycles and hope this new offer for World Car Free Day does this. There are many car free events happening across the capital this week, and we hope people leave their cars at home and choose Santander Cycles.”

Sign up for Santander Cycles by 11:59pm on World Car Free Day (September 23) to redeem your month with 50% the usual cost.
