A stunning restaurant in an historic Manchester building has been named one of the UK’s best.

TripAdvisor has unveiled the list of winners of its acclaimed Travellers’ Choice: Best of the Best Restaurants 2025 awards, which celebrate the highest-rated dining destinations around the world.

The awards are based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews over the last 12 months, with winners representing the top one percent of restaurants listed on TripAdvisor.

In the UK, restaurants have been represented through a number of categories, like Pet-Friendly, Vegan & Vegetarian and even the best when it comes to date night spots.

The One of a Kind category was divided into World and Europe winners, with the floating restaurant Barge East, in London’s Hackney Wick, the only UK venue to make it into both lists of the category. The Europe selection also included London’s Cahoots Underground and Park Chinois.

Marking the only Manchester representation in this year’s winners was Peter Street Kitchen, which was named amongst the top ten list of the Fine Dining in the UK category.

The restaurant is situated within the Free Trade Hall, on Peter Street, which dates back to 1853. The Grade II-listed building is situated on the site of the Peterloo Massacre, and had to be rebuilt after being damaged in the Manchester Blitz during 1940 and 1942.

The building also served as the city’s most prominent concert venue until the Bridgewater Hall was built in 1996. It has featured performances over the years from a varied line-up including Charles Dickins, Winston Churchill, Bob Dylan, Kiss, and the Sex Pistols.

Now home to The Edwardian, a Manchester hotel owned by Radisson Collection, the building also features the popular Peter Street Kitchen, which has offered up a menu of Japanese and Mexican specialities since first opening in 2018.

Named the winner of ‘Best Culinary Experience’ in the UK at the British Restaurant Awards last year, its À La Carte menu features the likes of Japanese Wagyu Gyoza tacos, black cod with green chilli shiso salsa, and chargrilled cabbage steak with jalapeño truffle butter.

The restaurant also serves a signature Hibachi Experience tasting menu, featuring small plates and deserts, as well as festive offerings for Christmas and the New Year. It also hosts its own Japanese Whisky masterclasses.

Peter Street Kitchen also features a Rikyū Lounge, which offers a semi-private dining experience around a Hibachi table, where chefs cook over a large teppanyaki grill in front of guests.

Peter Street Kitchen was listed in fourth place on TripAdvisor’s top ten list of the best fine dining spots in the UK, with The Witchery Restaurant in Edinburgh, London’s Baluchi and Northcote Restaurant in Lancashire rounding up the top three.

Locanda De Gusti in Edinburgh came out on top of the UK’s Hidden Gems list, whilst 1863 Restaurant in Cumbria got the prime position for the Date Night venues in the UK. York’s Casa Brazilian Rodizo came out in first place in the UK’s Casual Restaurants list.
