The Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed their third child on 23 April 2018. Kate met press outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s hospital to introduce her newborn son, Prince Louis, to the world. He was born at 11am, weighing a healthy 8lbs 7oz.

Prince Louis was less than three months old when he was christened at St James’ Palace, London, on 9 July 2018. Here, mum Kate carries a sleeping baby Louis in his christening gown, which was also worn by his dad Prince William, grandfather The King, and great grandmother Queen Elizbabeth II. It’s a replica of the gown made by Queen Victoria for her eldest daughter in 1841.

Early personality Max Mumby/Indigo
Even from some of Prince Louis’ earliest public appearances, it was clear he was going to have a vibrant personality from his expressive face. At the Trooping of the Colour in 2019, to mark the late Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday, Prince Louis was brought out on to the balcony at Buckingham Palace, but didn’t appear to be enjoying the occasion!
A noisy flypastMax Mumby/Indigo
For the same event in 2022 when Prince Louis was a little older, it still seemed he wasn’t quite so keen on every aspect of the occasion. While on the balcony alongside Queen Elizabeth II, his mum the Princess of Wales and other royal family members, Prince Louis put his hands over his ears to block out the noise of the loud flypast overhead.

The Platinum Pageant Max Mumby/Indigo
One of the most memorable moments of Prince Louis’ life for many so far will be his appearance at the Platinum Pageant in celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s landmark Platinum Jubilee. Parents of young children across the world related to the tricky predicament, as Prince Louis struggled to keep still during the long event. Many cheeky moments were caught on camera – including putting his hand over his mum’s mouth.

While watching the pageant, Prince Louis was also captured in another cheeky moment as he wagged his fingers and looked over towards the paparazzi. The wider royal family also attended the event, including the then Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Zara and Mike Tindall and Prince Louis’ siblings.

The King’s kneeMax Mumby/Indigo
During the event, Prince Louis was passed between various family members who attempted to keep him calm and entertained. Here, his grandfather The King (then Prince Charles) sits him on his knee for a chat to try and encourage him to sit calmly for the remainder of the event.

While Prince Louis hit the headlines for his cheeky behaviour, it was clear he has a great relationship with his family and was snapped giggling and enjoying a cuddle with his mum, Kate during the Jubilee Pageant.

Prince Louis was five years old when he attended the official Coronation of The King in 2023, his first major event after not attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. Here, he sits with his big sister Prince Charlotte in Westminster Abbey, and points out some of the action to her.
A day with the ScoutsWPA Pool
Now he’s a little older, Prince Louis has began attending some events with his parents. This occasion was just days after the Coronation, and Prince Louis joined the Scouts in Slough. Here, he gets stuck in during an activity day and pulls an intense face of concentration as he fires a rubber arrow.

Diggers with DadWPA Pool
Also during his visit with the Scouts in 2023, Prince Louis got the chance to ride on his dad’s knee while Prince William took control of a digger. The visit was part of the Big Help Out which encourages people to volunteer in their communities.

During a more recent flypast at Buckingham Palace for The King’s Trooping of the Colour parade, Prince Louis appeared to embrace the noise. Standing on the balcony in front of a smiling Princess of Wales, Prince Louis acted out a motorbike ride to the sound of the planes overhead. He’s always finding the fun in life!
