The victim of a suspected murder in a Welsh village has been named as 22-year-old Liam Woolford. A murder investigation has been launched after police were called to reports of a disturbance on Poets Close in Rhydyfelin on the outskirts of Pontypridd just before 1am on Tuesday.
According to police, three men in their 20s were injured and taken to hospital. Mr Woolford, from Porth, died from his injuries in hospital. His family said on Tuesday evening: “The family are thinking of their loving son Liam at this difficult time and ask for privacy to grieve.”
A 30-year-old man from Rhydyfelin has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder while a 22-year-old man from Tonteg has also been arrested on suspicion of murder. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old woman from Penygraig has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. All three remain in police custody as police continue their investigations.
Detective superintendent Paul Raikes of South Wales Police said: “I want to assure the community that we are working at pace to investigate this matter.
“Residents may notice an increased police presence in the area, and a cordon has been established on Masefield Way, specifically between the junctions of Poets Close and Shakespeare Rise.
