The inaugural Marwell 10K, taking place on September 28, has received backing from Prince William and will raise funds for endangered Grevy’s zebras.

More than 1,250 runners will take part in the sold-out race, which starts and finishes inside Marwell Zoo.

Steve Collins, race organiser, said: “It’s great that the event has proved so amazingly popular with runners and the local village of Owslebury all getting behind the event.”

Prince William sent a letter of support, wishing “his best wishes and good luck to everyone taking part in the run!”

The race will be supporting the type of rangers that Prince William highlighted in his recently launched series on BBC Earth entitled ‘Guardians’ with Sir David Attenborough.

Grevy’s zebra populations have declined by 75 per cent over the past 50 years, with fewer than 3,000 remaining in the wild.
