A MAJOR rescue mission was launched following an incident at a tourist landmark in Edinburgh.

Police and mountain rescue teams raced to Arthur’s Seat in the capital this afternoon.

The multi-agency operation was launched after a walker had fallen and injured their leg.

A search was then conducted by cops along with ambulance crews, mountain rescue and Holyrood Park rangers

The hiker was helped off of the hillside and treated with specialist equipment.

Pictures from the scene show a number of emergency service vehicles in Holyrood Park.

The condition of the walker is currently unknown.

In a post on social media, Police Scotland Edinburgh said: “Northeast Support Team responded to a walker who had fallen and sustained a leg injury on Arthur’s Seat, conducting a search operation to find them alongside multi-agency partners from Scottish Ambulance Service, Mountain Rescue and Holyrood Park Rangers.

“They thereafter helped with the walker’s extraction from the hillside using specialist equipment, while coordinating the response.”
