Prosecutors stated the now 22 year-old punched and kicked his victim before repeatedly stabbing him with a knife.

Njoku had been at a 21st birthday celebration at the pub that night.

Today, he was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow, having earlier been convicted of attempted murder.

It emerged Njoku was on two bail orders at the time and also had a previous conviction for having an offensive weapon.

Judge Matt Jackson KC remarked Njoku had suffered racist abuse as a youngster and latterly had a good “work ethic”, which made his decision to arm himself with a knife “all the more baffling”.

He will also be supervised for a further 18 months on his release.

Njoku was joined in the dock by 18 year-old Dede Bankole.

The teenager had been convicted at the same trial of assaulting Donnel Sarr that night in Grace’s.

He was said to have punched, kicked and stamped on the man to his injury and danger of life.

Judge Jackson stated CCTV footage of that incident displayed the “horrible degree of violence” inflicted.

After consideration, he had decided not to keep Bankole in custody.

He had been on remand pending sentencing.

Bankole was instead put on a two-year community payback order.

As part of that, he must do 250 hours of unpaid work and is subject to a nine-month curfew keeping him indoors between 7pm and 7am each night.

Judge Jackson said this will be “a reminder how close” he came to a custodial sentence.
