A mum claimed that a “youth with a knife” threatened her and her children

A police helicopter circled around South Bristol to hunt for a “youth with a knife” who was riding a green motorbike earlier this afternoon (Friday, September 26).

Avon and Somerset Police received a 999 call from a mum who claimed she and her children were threatened by a “youth with a knife” at Broadwalk Shopping Centre, Knowle, at around 1.40pm.

Due to the mention of a knife, firearms officers were deployed to the shopping centre and surrounding area, in addition to a National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter, which was deployed from the Almondsbury base.

NPAS said that the helicopter was deployed at 2.03pm.

The helicopter flew over South Bristol, circling over parts of Knowle and Hengrove to look for the green motorbike.

It spent 35 minutes in the air before flying back to Almondsbury.

A spokesperson for NPAS said: “At 14.03hrs on Friday, September 26, a police helicopter crew from NPAS Almondsbury was deployed to the Bristol area to assist Avon and Somerset Police in the search for a stolen motorcycle.

“Total flying time on the task was 35 minutes.”

The suspect and the green motorbike was not found by the helicopter nor by police, who have remained at the scene to conduct patrols in South Bristol.

Avon and Somerset Police said the mum claimed the youth made multiple threats to harm her and her children and a description of the youth has been provided to the force.

The youth is described as a male who was wearing a white and blue hooded top, a black balaclava and was riding a green motorbike with no helmet.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: ““We have received a 999 call from a woman who claimed a youth with a knife made multiple threats to harm her and her children at Broadwalk Shopping Centre, in Knowle, Bristol at around 1.40pm today (Friday, September 26).

“Due to reports a knife is involved, firearms officers have been deployed to the scene, with support from the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter.

“The informant has described the male as a youth, wearing a white and blue hooded top, a black balaclava, who was riding a green motorbike, with no helmet.

“The suspect has not been located, but officers are carrying out patrols in the south Bristol area and following a number of lines of enquiry.

“Any witnesses to the incident, or those with dashcam or mobile phone footage of a youth on a motorbike matching the description stated, are urged to call police on 101 quoting reference number 5225270821.”
