Pro-Palestinian protestors have launched further action against the Leonardo factory in Edinburgh by marching on the building.

A large crowd of people was escorted by police as they walked along Crewe Road North while chanting.

Footage of the demonstration showed them continuing to demonstrate outside the facility, which manufactures sensors and electronic systems often used for fighter jets such as F-35s, Typhoons and Gripens.

The site has already been targeted multiple times, with the group Shut Down Leonardo Edinburgh taking part in various actions, Edinburgh Live reports.

In the early hours of August 18, protestors blocked the entrance to the site by parking a van across it. One person appeared to be inside, while another was “locked” on top of the vehicle.

The building was also targeted with glass jars filled with red and green paint, in an attempt to stop access and close down production.

A heavy police presence was dispatched to the scene following reports of the incident.

On July 15, a van was driven into a perimeter fence surrounding the factory, and the walls were daubed with white paint.

Three women were arrested, and later appeared in court charged with malicious mischief, aggravated by having a “terrorist connection”.

The factory has been previously targeted by demonstrators for its role in supplying equipment used by the Israel Defense Forces – specifically guidance kit for F-35 jets.

In December last year, a spokesperson for Leonardo insisted the company does not ‘supply equipment’ directly to Israel.

The statement read: “Leonardo UK is subject to UK government export controls and does not supply equipment direct to Israel.

“The safety and wellbeing of our employees, contractors and neighbours is our first priority. Aggression towards, or the intimidation of, our people, who work hard to support the security and defence of the UK, is not acceptable.”

Edinburgh Live approached Leonardo for comment following the latest incident.
