Robbie Evans has already made the point that Leeds United have maxed out their position regarding Profit & Sustainability Rules. But, they were still willing to sign Harry Wilson permanently.

Leeds might be right on the brink of what PSR deems acceptable, but there was still a willingness at the end of the summer window to go beyond that and delve into the realms of a possible points deduction.

That is if Leeds do not resolve the matter by June 2026 and either sell a player, or manage to redistribute funds in a way that allows Leeds to spend a bit more. It means signings remain a possibility in January.

Since the summer window has been closed, Leeds have been linked with a handful of players. Man City’s Nico O’Reilly, for example. Reports coming out of Italy say two Serie A playmakers are on the Leeds list.

Remarkably, 29-year-old Lorenzo Pellegrini has gone from Roma captain to fringe player in the matter of a few months. The appointment of Gian Piero Gasperini has seen Pellegrini fall down the pecking order.

Leeds are said to be interested in Pellegrini, and Inter Milan’s 101-time Poland star Piotr Zielinski. Now, TeamTalk say that in the summer, Gasperini told Pellegrini to leave in order to boost his World Cup hopes.

A 36-time Italy international, Pellegrini’s last cap for Italy came in October 2024, and he needs game time to show Gennaro Gattuso what he is capable of, ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States.

Lorenzo Pellegrini would be Leeds’ biggest signing of 2025-26

Sean Longstaff, Anton Stach, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all started for Leeds on Saturday, and the quintet are certainly proving their worth after arriving at Elland Road.

But a move for Pellegrini would trump all of those. This is a Champions League player, a player to wear the armband and play more than 300 games for one of Europe’s biggest footballing institutions.

A total of 116 goals and assists in 318, for Roma. This is a set-piece specialist, a player with 36 caps for his country and not just any country, but Italy. Pellegrini would be a stunning signing, even if he’s expensive.
