Tributes have been paid following the death of one of Northern Ireland’s most respected undertakers.

The sudden death of Portadown funeral director Ian Milne (64) was announced on Milne Funeral Services Facebook page on Sunday evening, with his family stating the death was “deeply regretted”.

“With extremely heavy hearts we share the tragic news of Ian’s passing. He has many friends and we are so sorry we couldn’t speak personally to more of you,” they said.

“Funeral arrangements later. Very deeply regretted and sadly missed by the entire family. What a friend we have in Jesus.”

DUP MLA Jonathan Buckley led online tributes to Mr Milne.

“This news has come as a real shock. Ian was a huge personality in our town,” he said.

“He called with me regularly and helped so many people in their times of need, often going above and beyond. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Milne family.”

Party colleague Diane Dodds also paid tribute to Mr Milne.

“A real shock tonight to learn this sad news. Ian was very well know in our area. Recently Ian called into my office and was great chat as always. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Milne family,” she said.

Lurgan DUP councillor Peter Haire also sent condolences to the Milne family.

“Very sad to hear about the passing of Ian Milne,” he said.

“My heartfelt condolences to the Milne family at this difficult time. Thinking of you all and keeping you in my prayers.

“Rest in peace, Ian – safe in the arms of Jesus.”
