Matty Laidlaw has signed an extended contract at Hull FC just a month or so after penning a new deal. The young prop signed a one year extension to take him into the 2026 season this summer. However, the Black and Whites have now confirmed an extra two-year extension.

That will see Laidlaw, who has had a promising year with ten appearances to his name, stay at the club until at least the end of the 2028 season. The 21-year-old came in for praise from John Cartwright towards the end of the season and on the back of some strong displays off the bench, the club has moved quickly to tie him down longer term. In total, he has made 23 appearances for Hull since debuting in 2022 and a further 14 at senior level during spells at Newcastle Thunder, Keighley Cougars, and Doncaster.

Laidlaw is another product of the club’s Scholarship and Academy programmes, and will now have the time and security to kick on under Cartwright. He adds further depth to the pack alongside the likes of Herman Ese’ese, Liam Knight, Sam Lisone, and Ligi Sao.

Speaking on his new deal, Laidlaw said: “It’s really good to be able to secure my longer-term future because it just allows me to focus on myself over the next three years. I’d say 2025 has been the best year of my career so far and it’s been nice to get a good run of games in the side.

“My focus is just to keep growing and building in 2026. I’ve got some great team mates and coaching staff around me to help me keep developing.”
