A Weekend of Films, fun, and fresh talent.
The Scottish Youth Film Festival, hosted by the Scottish Youth Film Foundation (SYFF), returns for its annual festival, taking place this year at Dunfermline Learning Campus. The event will run on 3 and 4 October 2025 and it will champion young filmmakers, provide opportunities for creatives to connect and showcase an exciting awards show. The festival is funded by Screen Scotland. Book free places at the link below.
The weekend begins with an exclusive event aimed at young adults, aged 19-26, on Friday evening. This event includes an “In Conversation” and Q&A with actor, comedian and writer, Sanjeev Kohli (Still Game, River City, and Dept. Q). The night will end with screenings of the shortlisted films from the 19-26 age category, followed by an awards ceremony.
This is an exciting opportunity for young filmmakers to mingle with industry professionals, expand their network and gain valuable insights into building a future in the sector.
The main day on Saturday 4 October features talks, activities and workshops for 12-26 year olds. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from industry professionals in a variety of creative fields, including Make a Film in 60 Seconds, Acting, Directing, Film as Activism, Editing and many more.
The main stage will feature presentations from Halon Entertainment, who will dive into the world of animation and virtual production, an industry Q&A, where individuals will have the chance to speak directly with film professionals, and an audience with Shauna Macdonald, star of The Descent, Danger Mouse and The Scotts. The day will wrap up with screenings of the shortlisted films from across Scotland, and the awards show. For those looking for personalised guidance, there will be opportunities for one-on-one sessions with industry professionals.
SYFF General Manager, Heather Bowry, said: “We are delighted to bring the Scottish Youth Film Festival to Dunfermline Learning Campus for its 11th year and to support Fife Council and Dunfermline Regeneration Trust’s ambitious vision for media and the creative industries. With the exciting developments of Dunfermline Media City and the new Fife College building, this feels like the perfect moment to celebrate the achievements of young filmmakers from Fife and beyond, to shine a spotlight on the incredible creativity coming from across Scotland, and to help connect the next generation of storytellers and creatives to the film and TV industry”.
As SYFF continues to inspire, empower and elevate the voices of Scotland’s next generation of filmmakers, the future of Scottish cinema has never looked brighter. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this vibrant community.
The festival is free of charge and lunch is included for all attending. Tickets can be booked at www.scottishyouthfilmfestival.co.uk
