A Scottish city has been named one of the lottery-winning hotspots of the UK in a recent study to find out which areas people are most likely to become a Euromillions winner.

Many people across the UK take part in the lottery. While some people continue to use the same numbers every week, others instead chance their luck by selecting lucky dips. With massive amounts of money up for grabs, you really do need to be in it to win it.

In order to find the top three cities, WDW Bingo compiled data to create a “jackpot score” out of 100 based on two factors – the amount of people whose lucky numbers have won them over £1million, along with the number of people who won £50,000 during the game.

On top of this, the team also analysed how many people look up lottery wins online. From combining all of this data, WDW Bingo was able to find out the luckiest cities across the UK for lottery wins, reports the Express.

Becoming the third luckiest lottery winning area was Glasgow. Per 100,000 residents in Glasgow, the study found that around 12 per cent have managed to win more than a million pounds on the lottery.

Even more staggering, the data also suggests that a whopping 71 per cent of residents have bagged a lifechanging winning of £50,000.

Just ahead of the Scottish city was Portsmouth, which collated 13 per cent of 100,000 residents were able to get their hands on a £1million win.

However, taking the top spot as the UK city where people are the most likely to win the Lottery or Euromillions was Newcastle.

The Geordies were found to hold the record for the highest number of people who have won more than £50,000 on a lottery ticket, allowing it to clinch first place.

Harrison Score, head of WDW Bingo, said: “When it comes to the lottery, it’s clear that some places have a winning track record.

“Our analysis shows that factors like a high number of jackpot winners and an enthusiastic community that regularly checks for results all contribute to a city’s luck.

“This study isn’t just about who has won the most; it’s about a city’s collective spirit and hope for a big win.”

For those wanting to try their hand at winning some life changing cash, tonight’s (September 30) Euromillions winner could win an whopping £14million.
