Police Scotland officers are continuing to search for a killer at large who is said to have links to Edinburgh.
Raymond McCourt, 59, was convicted in 1993 and given a life sentence for murder after he shot shopkeeper Khalid Mahmood in the head and killed him before trying to rob a nearby bakery when he was 27 years old. He also shot a police officer.
In 205, he was deemed eligible for release but was soon back behind bars after he was recalled for stealing from his girlfriend.

He was last seen wearing a long black trench coat, grey dress trousers, a grey waistcoat, a blue shirt with a red and white tie and brown shoes and is described as being 6ft 2in tall, with stocky build, short grey hair and beard. McCourt also has reduced mobility.
Edinburgh residents have been told “not to approach” him and are instead asked to report any sightings.
Those with any information on McCourt should contact 101, quoting reference 2857 of 22 April, 2025. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously through the charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson added: “I can confirm this individual is currently unlawfully at large and we are working with Police Scotland to return him to custody.”
