A person has been found dead on a railway line. British Transport Police were called at around 6.30am on Wednesday, October 1 to reports of a casualty on the tracks near Eccles railway station.
Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner, a spokesperson for British Transport Police said.
The incident caused travel disruption with Northern routes between Leeds and Chester, Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Victoria and Chester/Liverpool Lime Street, and also Wigan North Western and Liverpool Lime Street
TransPennine Express between Newcastle/Hull and Liverpool Lime Street were also affected, as well as Transport for Wales between Manchester Airport and Chester/Llandudno/Llandudno Junction/Holyhead.
National Rail said trains are now able to run normally between Manchester Victoria/Manchester Oxford Road and Newton-le-Willows following the emergency services incident.
