Prince William and Princess Kate are seen as the future of the monarchy, but in one swift move they’ve taken The Firm back centuries, says one royal expert.
The royal couple have upset their new neighbors by locking them out of Windsor Great Park. The Waleses have moved houses, and as a result, the parking lot and the acres of land are closed off to the public, including their neighbors.
Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner compares it to the middle ages when royals lived in fortresses and the peasants were kept at a safe distance.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror US, Mr. Pelham Turner said: “It’s almost like the feudal system of the past still applies, where the Royal Family feel they are sovereign over the people, not serving the people.”
The UK-based TV presenter added: “In reality nobody was really asked, the people living nearby were told they were being re-housed, local residents told the woods where they walk their dogs is now an exclusion zone, so that the family could have privacy.”

It was announced in August that the Wales family would be moving houses. Now that they’ve made the move to Forest Lodge, a notice has been posted to the Windsor Great Park website.
The notice reads:
Due to the pending designation of part of The Great Park as a SOCPA (Serious Organised Crime and Police Act exclusion area), access via Cranbourne Gate will permanently cease on Monday 29th September 2025. As a result, Cranbourne Car Park will be permanently closed from 7pm on Sunday 28 September 2025.
Parking will remain available at Rangers Gate Car Park, located just down the road, which you can see on the Park Map here.
William and Kate’s new neighbors are not happy with the royals
Pelham Turner suggests a notice should be hung on the Palace gates reminding the royals that they are public servants.
He explained: “Perhaps a notice should be put up on the Palace gates reminding them of their solemn oaths and listen to the people, rather than running roughshod over them.”
He added: “The Royal Family should never forget they are the servants for British values, making promises in cathedrals and Coronations.”
“There is certainly friction over these security decisions”
When speaking to Pauline Maclaran, royal author and professor at Royal Holloway, she agrees that it could have been handled better, but at the same time, the decisions are handled by the security team.
She said: “I think this could have been handled better with more warning given of the intended new security zone.”
She added: “There is certainly friction over these security decisions and it does seem that there was little advance warning of the new restrictions.”
While there are frustrations, Maclaran believes the decisions are made by the security team, and that the hard feelings are “a storm in a teacup” and will blow over.
