Although the yellow weather warning ends tonight conditions remain damp and blustery into SundayStorm Amy on the Liverpool waterfront(Image: Photo by Colin Lane)
The forecast is looking much calmer across Merseyside tomorrow as the strong gusts of winds settle and rainy weather clears. Storm Amy has caused havoc in Merseyside today as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind, lasting until 11.59pm this evening.
It saw many train services suspended for most of the day as trees fell onto the tracks and overhead lines were damaged by the strong winds. Mersey Ferries also stopped all services due to “adverse” weather conditions and football fans were warned of disruption as they made their way across the country today.
Everton also closed part of its Hill Dickinson Stadium due to Storm Amy. However, the club told Everton correspondent Joe Thomas that the weather would not impact preparations ahead of tomorrow’s game v Crystal Palace. Read more about this here.
And, if the travel chaos wasn’t enough debris and buildings crashed onto the footpaths as powerful winds continued to batter Liverpool this afternoon.
Although the weather conditions are forecast to remain wet into Saturday night, with the weather warning remaining in place until 11.59pm this evening, it’s thankfully looking to be much dryer tomorrow (Sunday).
The Met Office said the weather conditions will be “changeable” on Sunday, October 5, with a chance of showers. Although the showers will turn lighter and more scattered through the afternoon.
It said the day will be often cloudy with occasional sunny intervals. It’s expected to be still “rather windy” but winds easing. Maximum temperatures of 14 °C.
