Snow has hit parts of Europe with 20 INCHES in a brutal wintry blast – and now the UK looks set to be next in the firing line. WX Charts maps and charts show snowfall hitting the UK, including Scotland, around October 12 and October 13.

The snow in Scotland will likely measure only around 5cm – but wintriness looks more likely after a snowy shift on the continent this week. The Bosnian capital of Sarajevo is among the areas worst-hit, leaving tourists astonished by the freezing temperatures.

One visitor, Sandra Majstorovic, told The Independent: “We came here in flip-flops and now we need boots and jackets.” Meteorologist Slobodan Sovilj, from the state Hydrometeorological Service, suggesting the snowfall could reach record levels for October.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, head of the Ivanjica municipality, in central Serbia, said: “We have a number of areas without electricity because of broken trees and branches that fell on power lines.”

Thousands of residents have been left without power due to the freak weather incident. Pictures show cars trying to navigate the tricky conditions.

Looking at mid-October, the Met Office said: “On Thursday, the south of the UK will see residual patchy light rain and drizzle clear to the southeast during the day, with skies then brightening.

“The north of the UK, especially northwest Scotland, will also see some rain and drizzle, and it will be rather windy here. The rest of the country will be dry and bright with some sunshine and fairly light winds.

“Thereafter, high pressure is expected to dominate for most if not all of the rest of the period, bringing plenty of dry, settled weather.

“Cloud amounts will be variable, and some overnight fog is likely, this slowly clearing through the morning.”

The forecast from the forecasting agency went on to add: “Thicker cloud and some rain may affect the far north at times though. Temperatures will be near average, but with some chilly nights possible.
