Manchester United winger Amad showed where his allegiances lie after causing controversy last month with a post alongside Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho.

In September, Garnacho returned to Old Trafford for the first time since his summer move to Stamford Bridge. The Argentine received a frosty reception from the home fans who booed and jeered Garnacho throughout the evening.

Enzo Maresca had planned to bring the winger on for Chelsea but due to an early red card for Robert Sanchez, that plan was aborted. That did not stop the United fans mocking Garnacho as he trudged off the pitch following a 2-1 defeat.

After the game, Amad shared a picture of himself swapping shirts with Garnacho in the tunnel at full-time. This was met poorly by United fans who felt Garnacho had betrayed the club with both the manner of the exit and for choosing Chelsea.

Shortly afterwards, Amad wiped his Instagram account clean with all photos, including his profile picture, deleted. Last weekend, the Ivorian was not named in the squad for the defeat at Brentford after suffering a family bereavement.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

However, he was back with the team on Saturday as he played the full 90 minutes in a 2-0 victory against his former club Sunderland. Returning to social media on Sunday, Amad posted a simple picture of the United team in a huddle at Old Trafford accompanied with a red heart emoji.

Amad’s show of affection for the team comes after Ruben Amorim called upon his players to show their desire for him to stay at Old Trafford. “I saw it today and I know they want to do their best and I know they don’t want to change the coach all the time,” said Amorim.

“But, like I said during this week, to be with the manager is ‘I will kill myself to go in every transition’. We need to show it with actions and sometimes, when we look at our team, I know for sure that when we see the games in the end they know that sometimes we can do better.

“So I feel that during the week, but we need to show that on the pitch, not just at home but also away. There is no momentum with our team.

“We know what happens when we win one game, the frustration is not to see the same team at home and away. We didn’t play well in the second-half but we focused, we fought hard for the second balls and these small things are going to help us win games.”
