An investigation has been launched into ugly scenes at the end of an amateur rugby league final in Featherstone.

Fighting broke out in the main stand after Ince Rose Bridge, from Wigan, beat Stanningley 18-14 in the National Conference Division One promotion decider at Millennium Stadium, Post Office Road.

Players from both sides allegedly became involved in the ‘skirmish’ following the final whistle.

National Conference administrator Alan Smith said: “The NCL management will carry out a full investigation into the fighting which took place at the end of the game.

“There will be no further comment until the investigation, and any disciplinary proceedings are completed.”

Casey Shaw scored the winning try for Bridge inside the final 10 minutes, after Stanningley had led 14-12.

Callum Hughes crossed twice for Ince and TJ Boyd was their other try scorer. Mason Fillingham kicked their goal.

Jack Vincent and Jeremy Wiscombe scored Stanningley’s tries and Adam Butterill booted three goals.

In the other game played at Post Office Road on Saturday afternoon, West Hull beat Siddal, who are coached by Leeds Rhinos star Jake Connor.

That game saw West Hull crowned NCL champions with the 8-0 win enough to secure them that title for the first time since 2019.
