Experience 17th century Edinburgh by lantern light this Halloween with the atmospheric Lantern Led Tours at The Real Mary King’s Close. Descend the historic steps leading down from The Royal Mile and discover the lives and deaths of the real people who have roamed the city’s streets over the last 400 years, with just the flickering of your lantern to light the way.
The Lantern Led Tour promises a truly immersive experience in near-darkness and is only available in October, making it a perfect after-dark adventure for Halloween 2025. Despite the darkness, the theatrical tour is popular with families as they explore the city’s best underground experience.
Each guest will carry their own light – the only means of navigating the shadows – as the haunted past of Edinburgh is brought to life around them. Along the way, visitors will come face to face with a rather insidious character from the 17th century; one that used to strike terror into people’s hearts at the very sight of them…
From 11th to 31st October, guests joining the 18.15, 18.30 or 18.45 Lantern Led Tours can round off their nights with special Halloween dinner at Amber Restaurant.
The A Spirited Evening tasting menu comprises seven dishes served across three courses and has been crafted just for the occasion, showcasing bold Scottish flavours. Dessert is paired with a perfectly chosen dram of Scotch whisky to warm the soul.
