Rodri will not link up with Spain for the upcoming international break after suffering a hamstring injury in Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Brentford on Sunday.
The midfielder was taken off 21 minutes into the game and replaced by compatriot Nico Gonzalez.
The 29-year-old is still regaining his sharpness following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury last season and there were fears that this hamstring injury could rule him out for an extended period.
“I felt a little bit in the hamstring but it seems like it’s not that much,” Rodri said after the win at the Gtech Community Stadium. “The important thing was the victory. I stretched the leg a little bit, a bit like in the Euros final. I stretched a little bit but it’s part of the process.”
Rodri does not believe it is related to his knee injury that he has been coming back from, and which saw him miss last weekend’s 5-1 win over Burnley. “No I don’t think so,” he said.
“I don’t feel that I feel tired muscle-wise, I feel fresh but the most important thing is it’s not that big.
“It’s part of the process. The good things about this is you get out, you don’t let the muscle stretch now. The good thing is the break so it will be even better in this sense to recover these days and hopefully I can be in the next game. As soon as I can reach a consistency of playing games and the other will come in time.”
Rodri will miss Spain’s World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria. City are next in action on Saturday, October 18 at home against Everton.
