Hotel franchisor Choice Hotels International has confirmed plans to add 50 new properties under the Quality Suites brand, totalling more than 4,800 rooms, to its portfolio in France.

The expansion will almost double the company’s presence in the country, increasing its number of franchised hotels in the country from 57 to 107.

It will also expand Choice Hotels’ presence to more than 30 new cities across France. Of these properties, 26% are located in major cities including Marseille, Toulouse, and Bordeaux.

Another 52% are situated in mid-sized suburban cities such as Rennes, Chambery, and Colmar.

The remaining 22% are in smaller towns, including Quiberon, Dinan, and Mèze.

The new hotels will join the company’s existing brands in France, including Clarion, Quality, Comfort and Ascend Hotel Collection locations.

According to Choice, France is considered the largest hotel franchise market in Europe.

Choice Hotels president and chief executive officer Pat Pacious said: “This European expansion builds upon our significant international rooms growth already achieved in Asia and the Americas this year. By nearly doubling our footprint in France, we’re not only reinforcing our commitment to expanding our direct franchise business but simultaneously enhancing our value proposition for guests and franchisees.

“Expanding our presence is a transformative milestone towards making it easier for travellers to find the right stay wherever their journey takes them, and we’re thrilled to offer additional opportunities for more people around the world to experience the hospitality of our best-in-class brands.”

The company reports that most of these sites are near airports, public transport links and city centres, which will result in accommodating business, leisure and long-stay guests.

All the incoming hotels will participate in Choice Privileges, the company’s loyalty programme that allows members to earn and redeem points at more than 7,100 global locations.

Internationally, Choice Hotels’ portfolio now includes more than 150,000 rooms outside the US and the company continues to pursue further growth in key markets.

In September 2025, Choice Hotels entered the Argentine market with the launch of the Radisson Blu Bariloche, a lakeside property offering 80 guest rooms and 32 suites.
