Larry Lamb joined Ed Balls and Susanna Reid on the Good Morning Britain sofa today, coincidentally, on his birthday – and the hosts were left in shock when he revealed his real age

ITV’s Good Morning Britain welcomed Larry Lamb onto the sofa on his birthday this morning, to talk about his return to Barry Island.

The Gavin and Stacey legend will be making a return to the iconic location in which the sitcom was filmed, but unfortunately, not for a Christmas special.

Before getting into the chat, Ed Balls and Susanna Reid started off by singing Happy Birthday to the star, with a decorative animation on the green screen.

“You have come in to Good Morning Britain on your birthday!,” Susanna exclaimed, as Larry gushed that there was no better way to start his big day.

“How are you feeling on your birthday? Do you mind me asking how old you are?,” Susanna asked, as Larry revealed he was 78-years-old today. Ed gasped in shock, while Susanna told the former EastEnders star he looked “phenomenal”.

Although Larry is taking a break from major roles, he’s not completely calling it quits. He’s heading on a nationwide book tour, with his last stop in the iconic Barry Island.

Of course, Ed and Susanna had to clear the rumours up. It was earlier rumoured that the star would be appearing on I’m A Celebrity All Stars, after appearing on the series on 2016. However, he fiercely shut down these rumours, and many more, down on GMB.

“Is it true you’re back on I’m A Celebrity this year, for All Stars. And is there going to be a Christmas edition of Gavin and Stacey and you’re going to be in the new Ruth and James Apple TV comedy drama?”

“No, no and no!” Larry laughed. “All totally incorrect!”

Show creators James Corden and Ruth Jones are said to be putting their brains together once again for a follow-up to the iconic BBC comedy.

Earlier this month, it was reported fans can expect to see a brand new ten-part comedy drama from James and Ruth as they have reportedly signed a huge deal with AppleTV+.

It’s reported that the series will be hitting screens in 2027, with a source telling the Sun: “Naturally there was a lot of interest around the script and a major bidding war to land this production.

“But James already had an excellent relationship with AppleTV+. It acquired the rights to his Carpool Karaoke, and it made sense to go in this direction.”
