Halloween is just around the corner and there’s plenty of spine-chilling events happening all over Merseyside. While most are designed for children and families, there are a few experiences that will test even the bravest adults.
Newsham Scream Park offers guests a tour of the derelict haunted hospital while Liverpool ONE will prepare its annual Halloween street party for all ages to enjoy, For those Halloween enthusiasts who prefer not to be scared witless, there are also ghost tours and historic walks available.
Below are some Halloween events perfect to get into the eerie spirit. We’ve also included a few notable events that are happening over the Halloween period in case fright fests aren’t your thing.

The event promises a day of thrilling entertainment, where creativity meets costume chaos and every family member can embrace their spooky side. At the core of the event is the children’s Halloween costume contest, which will be held on Paradise Street this year, allowing kids to show off their creative outfits.
Drum band Katumba is back with its high-energy and Halloween-infused rhythms to the streets, hosting drumming workshops for kids. The hands-on workshops offer participants the chance to master the beats with a Halloween twist. Roaming characters will appear throughout Paradise Street, including the return of the Arachnobot, the giant spider, along with ‘Uncle Doom’ and his Organ of Gloom.

Pumpkin Picking
Whether you’re planning a spooky, intricate or humorous design, the first step is choosing your pumpkin. There are plenty of places across Merseyside and not far beyond where you can enjoy this seasonal activity, making for a fantastic family day out.
Whether you’re on the hunt for a giant Cinderella pumpkin or something smaller for a Jack O’Lantern, there’s a wealth of locations offering pumpkin patches, so you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Newsham Scream ParkNewsham Park Hospital(Image: UGC)
Set inside one the UK’s spookiest sites, the former hospital will host Newsham Scream Park for a third season, with different stories in each room. The Victorian Grade II listed building was first built as an orphanage for the children of British seamen in 1879. It later became a hospital and an asylum, and in recent years it has been used for Halloween events.
This year, the Newsham Scream Park events will feature a themed bar and street food courtyard, aiming to offer guests “more than just scares”. Asylum Entertainment Limited has unveiled four new scare mazes and experiences, designed by AtmosFEAR! Scare Entertainment. Four ‘scare mazes’ will be available to visit as part of the event, named Victorian Psycho, Witch Hunt, Phantasma’s Hall of Freaks and Larst Resort.

Spooky Welly Walk
The fundraising walk starts at the Sefton Park Obelisk, and winds it way along a two-mile Halloween-themed trail through the famous park. Fancy dress is encouraged every year and includes a wide-range of activities for children.
Along the route, children will find a bugfest beauty parlour, creepy crafts, slime-making stations and a funfair. Most activities are included in the ticket price, making it a spooktacularly good value day out for families looking for budget-friendly fun.

Formerly known as the Halloween Lakeside Trail and now reimagined for 2025, Halloweenville is set to transform the picturesque 70-acre site nestled in the idyllic Cheshire countryside into an enchanted Halloween land. This year’s theme will take visitors ‘under water’ to the haunting depths of the Gold Lake, featuring ghostly sea creatures, sunken secrets and the skeleton pirates.
Visitors can also toast marshmallows or enjoy a delicious hot chocolate, spiced pumpkin latte or cocktail and try tasty treats from a range of food vendors, while the Partridge Café will serve classic hotdogs, burgers and fries. The attraction is once again dog-friendly.

Halloween in the Gardens: A Night of Music and Fire
A spectacular firelit concert suitable for all the family will be bringing wow factor to Queens Gardens. Performers include include six-piece roaring 1920s/30s band Dr Jazz, Flat Pack Music, opera musicians breaking down barriers to classical music, and three uplifting community choirs, Wired for Sound, Warrington BSL Choir and PopVox Choir.
There will be parades and fire gardens with huge spectacles for all ages to enjoy.

Halloween at Calderstones Park
There’s lots of Halloween activities happening at Calderstones including a Spooky Cinema, Bookshop Bedtime Stories, a staging of Little Red Riding Hood and much more. You can see a full list of events here.

River of Light returns from Friday, October 24 to Sunday, November 2, and will centre around the theme of ‘Optics – Science and Light’. Ten large-scale artworks will be on display, each inspired by a different aspect of science, technology or nature.
The aim is to captivate visitors as they transform the three-kilometre trail along the waterfront, which includes the Royal Albert Dock, as well as around the Pier Head, Exchange Flags and Liverpool ONE.
Farmaggedon
Farmaggedon is an award-winning attraction located near Ormskirk and every year brave souls test their courage by facing the horror. Across the Farmaggedon grounds, guests can enjoy a range of live music, dancers and street performers.

Shiverpool ToursThe Shiverpool Ghost Tour on the streets of Liverpool in 2006
Audiences can choose from three city centre tours, all of which are delivered in the company’s distinctive trademark street theatre style. Led by Victoriana costumed guides, each activity explores a different quarter of the city of Liverpool, including landmarks and beautiful green spaces offering a supernatural backdrop to each tour experience.
Moving Monsters Trail
Families can explore Southport this Halloween in search of mischievous 3D monsters and characters. Two free augmented reality (AR) trails will make for a fantastic day out in Southport during the spooky season, packed with selfie opportunities, surprises, and the chance to win exciting prizes.
Using a special trail map, visitors can uncover hidden locations throughout the town where secret QR codes are waiting to be found. Scan the code and watch as 3D animated characters come to life! Colourful, dancing beasties will appear around the town centre as part of the Moving Monsters Trail which is organised by Southport BID.

Journey to Hell
Journey to Hell is a terrifying, experience led event, featuring live actors through themed areas of Pleasure Beach Resort, immersive scare zones and scary rides after dark. Thrillseekers are invited to challenge their worst fears and come face to face with the gruesome undead, sinister clowns, ghostly apparitions and more.
And brand new for 2025, Abyss is a gruelling descent to hell through the tunnels in the beloved River Caves ride.
