The Super League Young Player of the Year award has been handed out with Dream Team winger Lewis Martin of Hull FC overlooked.
Martin’s incredible 2025 season saw him end the year as the leading try scorer in Super League with the youngster scoring a try against every other club in the competition.
He was one of four players nominated alongside Huddersfield Giants’ George Flanagan Jr, St Helens’ Harry Robertson and last year’s winner, Junior Nsemba of Wigan Warriors.
It’s now been confirmed that Saints centre Robertson has won the award, becoming the first St Helens player to claim the award since Jack Welsby, who scooped it in 2021 and 2022.
Robertson is in with a genuine chance of making the England squad having been named in the 30-man training squad earlier in the year, however, NRL star Herbie Farnworth wasn’t part of that group and it may be the case that Gold Coast’s AJ Brimson is selected as a utility back for Shaun Wane’s 24-man squad.
St Helens’ Harry Robertson crowned Super League Young Player of the Year
Robertson debuted for St Helens in 2024 but it’s clear that 2025 was his breakout year with the 19-year-old actually making a position change in the off-season.
Coming through the academy as a full-back, Robertson quickly became St Helens’ first choice centre and he started the season in incredible form in that position, scoring five tries in the opening three games.
Injury did derail him but Robertson would still end the year with 12 tries and five assists in his 21 appearances, whilst also providing one of the moments of the season as he evaded numerous tacklers when helping create Shane Wright’s try in St Helens’ win over Leeds Rhinos.
Whilst Robertson has had an incredible season, questions will be asked over Lewis Martin and whether he should have claimed the award.
The Hull FC winger was named in the Super League Dream Team, which effectively confirms him as one of the two best players in his position, whereas Robertson wasn’t among the Dream Team centres.
Robertson was crowned at the Rugby League Awards with the Man of Steel to be confirmed later in the evening.
