Hull FC winger Lewis Martin missed out on the Super League Young Player of the Year award on Tuesday night and he can count himself very unlucky.

It was St Helens’ Harry Robertson who actually took the crown and there is no doubting that Robertson is one of Super League’s brightest talents, as evidenced by the fact Shaun Wane named him in his 32-man training squad earlier in the year.

If you want further proof as to why Harry Robertson is a special player and someone worthy of the title Super League Young Player of the Year then just watch that iconic ‘Left to Wright’ try once again. That alongside his 12 tries and five assists in just 21 appearances mean the 19-year-old was a just winner.

But that’s not to say that Lewis Martin wasn’t extremely unlucky given just how impressive his 2025 campaign is and there are two specific stats that bolster the Hull FC winger’s claim.

Hull FC man misses award but primed for incredible 2026

The first of those stats is that Lewis Martin was one of just three players in all of Super League who did not miss a single minute in 2025.

Of the 378 players to play in Super League in 2025, a figure that is admittedly skewed by Salford using over 70, only eleven played in every single round.

Of those eleven, just three played every minute with Lewis Martin being one of those, showing incredible resilience and toughness to do so.

Martin also managed to score against every other team in Super League which made him the first Hull FC player in the modern era to achieve that feat, so it’s not just that he was scoring tries against Salford (although he did score five), but also against Grand Finalists Wigan Warriors and Hull KR.

His tally of 25 tries topped the Super League scoring charts which ensured he did receive the top scorer award at the Rugby League Awards but he may well feel unlucky not to have taken the Super League Young Player of the Year, particularly given the fact he was voted into the Dream Team.

Whilst it will be a blow for Martin, he will still be eligible for the award in 2026 but he’ll surely have his eyes set higher with the Hull FC winger an outside shout for the World Cup next year should he continue his form.
