Goa Chief Minister has raised concerns over the increasing number of patients at the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior (IPHB), noting that around 300–350 individuals are currently receiving care across 10–12 centres operated by Provedoria.

The CM highlighted a troubling trend of patients being abandoned by their families, with some relatives reportedly leaving their loved ones at the hospital and never returning.

“Given these circumstances, it’s crucial to focus not only on physical health but also on mental well-being,” the CM said, emphasizing the growing importance of comprehensive mental health care in the state.

Authorities continue to monitor patient needs and work on improving both medical and psychological support services for those in care.
