Ryan Murray and Heather Waters, from Maybole, were attending the star’s concert at the OVO Hydro earlier this week.
Perry even took Ryan’s phone and recorded clips on stage, before asking the pair where they had travelled from.
Ryan’s reveal that “I’m from Ayrshire” prompted a chorus of cheers and boos from the 12,000 spectators inside the venue.
Perry was left confused, saying: “What the helly did you just say?”
Heather tried to explain to the singer that the famous poet Robert Burns was from the region.
Perry replied: “Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, all I’ve heard about is Glasgow versus Edinburgh. I love all of Scotland, even the place that you said you’re from.”
Videos of the exchange were posted online, with many users coming to the defence of Ayrshire.
One said: “All booing yet come to Troon, Irvine and Ayr when the weather is good.”
Another added: “Katy was so confused what Ayrshire was.”
