Snow is on the way to the UK – and it’s “not just Scotland” that will be hit. Flurries of the white stuff are anticipated in England, too, as the wintriness sweeps south from Scotland, north of the border, to parts of our country too.

The projections come from WX Charts, which uses Met Desk’s GEFS model, and hint at flurries between October 20 and October 22. The first day – Monday – will see Scotland take the brunt, as the country shivers in 0C.

But by the following days, snow is anticipated across parts of northern England too. Areas at risk include the higher ground between Newcastle and Manchester, while the Pennines could also be struck.

The rest of the UK – including southern England, Wales and Northern Ireland – and Ireland are forecast to miss out. It is thought these areas will stay too mild for snow.

In the short-term, a Met Office forecast for Friday (October 10) adds: “Dry and settled for many during the coming days.

“A largely dry and bright day today across eastern Scotland. Elsewhere, a few fog patches across eastern England at first, otherwise largely cloudy with some spots of rain or drizzle in central and northwestern areas.

“Cloud tending to thin and break up overnight, particularly in northern and central areas, allowing some fog patches to develop. Turning chilly under any clearer skies.”

Looking at Saturday, October 11, the meteorological agency said: “Cloudy and breezy across northern Scotland with some patchy rain. Otherwise largely cloudy in the south, but any fog elsewhere lifting to leave a dry day with sunny spells.”

The outlook for Sunday to Tuesday adds: “Mainly dry on Sunday with early fog lifting to give sunny spells for many. Turning rather cloudy early next week, with some patchy light rain, mainly in the east.”
